The process of creating this project was definitely one to remember because it was nothing like what I’ve ever done at Sauder so far. Doing the project reminded of me of the good old’ days in high school when I had to be creative and cut/ paste/ posters for class. However, in retrospect, this project gave me a lot of insight and interesting outside-of the- classroom experience that wouldn’t have gained otherwise. I was very impressed by the d-studio admin for connecting us with over ten CEOs, which is no easy task.
I was incredulous at first about the potential learning that could have come of this project but it proved me wrong right from the start. Simply speaking with Winnie Lai (CEO of Clinicbook) was a learning experience for me. Hearing her ambition and passion was much more intriguing than simply noting facts about her business model. (Which was also interesting) This project brought a lot of “business” info into a different prospective where I can see connections, gaps, and points, which I wouldn’t have seen without the canvas. Now I can understand the importance in creating these models on a regular basis in the real workplace for greater understanding as a visual tool.
Apart from learning about the business model itself; this project helped me gain insight on business start-ups. Observing CEOs discuss with each other their business models was quite interesting. Also, it’s not everyday where you can ask a business owner what exactly their cost- structure is and get a detailed answer. Overall I really enjoyed this project and I look forward to the next one!
